Coronation Celebrations

5th May 2023

Friday 5 May was a memorable day in our school calendar as we celebrated the Coronation of King Charles 3. Everyone really looked the part, dressing up as Royals. princes and princesses with some wearing 'Sunday best!'

To start our day we had a Coronation Playground parade which everyone enjoyed, then at 12:00 noon it was time for a delicious Coronation Lunch, consisting of chips, chicken goujons, pizza and ice cream. Big thank you to Mrs Govan in the kitchen for preparing such a tasty lunch and also to the staff who helped decorate the Hall with flags, bunting, balloons and banners. It looked fantastic!

Classwork today revolved around the Coronation theme as we all wrote 'A letter to my future self,' which will be included in our Coronation Time Capsule. This will be buried at the front of our school next week, together with some newspaper cutouts, stamps, class photos, coins and so on. We have been discussing the best time to unearth the Time Capsule and the year 2040 has been suggested, which would be the 70th anniversary of Drumhillery PS. Not sure how many of the staff will still be around then! Some of our P6-7 pupils have requested that they be invited back to Drumhillery for that ceremony!

Every pupil in the school was also presented with a personalised Coronation photo of themselves today, as a keepsake and poignant reminder of a very special day in Drumhillery PS!
