Gortatole Trip Day 3
13th May 2026
And so, Gortatole 2026 has come to an end! What a wonderful trip it was!
Our final activity was ‘Bushcraft,’ something none of us had encountered before. In groups, the children planned and built a shelter, using branches, rope and tarpaulin. It had to be large enough to fit the group inside and also had to be waterproof. We'll done to the P7 boys who emerged victorious, scoring 19/20.
To finish the session our instructor John showed the children how to light a fire, without matches or any of the usual equipment. It was fascinating. Everyone had a go and each group successfully started their fire. We then cooked some marshmallows on the open fire.
A most enjoyable morning!
