Gortatole Trip May 2022

19th May 2022

Gortatole Trip

On 16 May fifteen p6-7 pupils travelled to Gortatole Outdoor Education Centre for their eagerly anticipated residential visit. We were joined by 29 pupils from Churchill PS. Staff present were Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Bruce from Drumhillery and Mrs Cartmill, Miss Hutchinson and Mr Clarke from Churchill.

We arrived at 11:15am on Monday morning and after a guided walk round the premises and a quick lunch it was off to the first activity. The program included canoeing, climbing, caving, orienteering and archery and our instructors were Damian, Jacqui, John and Jonny who were so competent and enthusiastic throughout. Evenings involved some team games and initiative tasks led by instructors, followed by teacher led games in the fantastic sports hall, including 5-a-side football, basketball, tug-o-war and much more.

Wednesday afternoon came too soon and it was time for home again! However so many happy memories were made and well done to the pupils from both schools for showing such enthusiasm and effort over the 3 days to make it a trip to remember.

Thanks also to Damian and the Gortatole staff for planning and delivering such an exciting program. Busy active outdoor sessions means hungry children of course and mealtimes were always welcome. The food was delicious and no-one went hungry,  thanks to Rowena and her hardworking team in the kitchen. Thanks again 😊.
