Summer Scheme Week 2

26th Jul 2021

Summer Scheme Monday 26 July

Great to have George from Go Fly Your Kite in school today. Everyone had the opportunity to make a kite and add their own design to it. Some super artistic talent on display. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘George then took us out to the football pitch to teach the basics of kite flying and everyone had a go. Not sure if 'Keep Her Lit' and 'Hit the Diff' are actual aeronautical terms but everyone in Drumhillery seems to know what they mean and there was certainly plenty of encouragement on offer๐Ÿ˜‚.

Mrs Ewart had collected stones from the beach and the children enjoyed painting these today. Everyone first studied some samples printed from the internet and then set to work on their own design ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽจ! So far they look great!

You'll find some photos and videos on our website.

Summer Scheme Tuesday 27 July

Today the children had an opportunity to practise their culinary skills as they made pizza ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ• with Mrs. Ewart. Didn't get a chance to taste any but the smell was certainly good! ๐Ÿ˜Š

They also completed the painting of the beach stones and enjoyed some outdoor games in the playground.

Tomorrow we have orienteering in the school grounds courtesy of a team from ABC council, so really looking forward to that๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ!

Could we also remind all p1-3 children to bring in a teddy bear for our Teddy Bears' picnic tomorrow๐Ÿป๐Ÿป? Hoping the weather holds out for us!

Summer Scheme Wednesday 28 July

Today was great๐Ÿ˜Š! Huge thanks to our team from the council (Alan, Paul and Sylvia) for a superbly organised morning of orienteering fun.

P4-7 started in the Assembly Hall and worked with Paul to build an island on the Hall floor, using a variety of materials such as rope, stones, wood, polythene etc. Paul used the island to teach some vital orienteering skills, especially that the the map must always point North.

After break p4-7 enjoyed some more orienteering team challenges on the football pitch, concluding with an orienteering competition in our school grounds. Before the groups set off Paul reminded everyone it's more important to be fast with your head than fast with your feet ๐Ÿ™‚!

Everyone was given a map of Drumhillery grounds, prepared by the team beforehand following their initial visit last week. This will be a great resource for us to have in future!

P1-3 enjoyed some activities with Alan, including an animal scavenger hunt, bark rubbing, Woodland Code and colouring/identification of animals and also story telling.
They also had a short teddy bears' picnic to finish๐Ÿป๐Ÿป . Well done again everyone!

Summer Scheme Thursday 29 July

Kids absolutely loved Dyan Mill Animal Farm this morning! Have a look through our photos to see the range of activities on offer. They loved the chance to pet and feed many of the animals and thankfully the rain stayed off again! Parents - apologies if you're inundated with requests for pets over the next couple of weeks! It's our fault entirely! There were rabbits, chicks, ducklings, pigs, calves, monkeys, lizards, pygmy goats, guinea pigs, alpacas and much more! The excellent play park also added to the fun! Definitely worth a family visit later in the summer!

Big thanks also to the staff at Dyan Mill who were excellent with the kids, allowing them the chance to interact and have a truly hands on experience today! Well done!

Summer Scheme Friday 30 July

Today we welcomed CJ (Ambassadors Football Coach) back for his second session. CJ has great enthusiasm and the kids really loved both sessions ๐Ÿ™‚ โšฝโšฝโšฝ! We also had Lego/K'nex/Art activities for everyone to enjoy.

As a final treat the Ice Cream Van arrived just before everyone one went home and all the children enjoyed either a 99 cone or a Slush Puppie! Thanks to Harry for coming out again๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ!

So Summer Scheme has come to an end and what a brilliant 2 weeks we've had.  It's been fantastic to see everyone enjoy themselves so much and participate so enthusiastically, showing excellent behaviour throughout. We're delighted the children had an opportunity to enjoy so many activities they've missed out on over the last year and a half.

Thank you to the teachers who gave off their time to help out and especially to Mrs Bruce (our Summer Scheme Leader), who worked tirelessly over the past few weeks. Thanks also to parents for your support in sending the children each day and to those of you who expressed your appreciation to the teachers.

Hoping you enjoy the rest of your summer holidays and see you all soon.
